Scoping before building

Discovery maps the actual workflow: who does what, in what order, with which system, and where the handoffs fail. That usually surfaces two or three points where the real cost sits, and those points determine whether the answer is a configuration change to an existing tool, an integration between two systems, a small internal application, or a larger build.

A written scope follows: what the software does, what it deliberately does not do, how data moves in and out, what happens when it fails, and who maintains it afterward. Projects that skip this step are the ones that end up half-finished.

Built to be maintained

Software written for a business becomes that business’s responsibility. Architecture, dependency choices, deployment, logging, and documentation are treated as part of the deliverable so the application can survive the developer moving on.

Hosting, DNS, TLS, backups, and monitoring are planned with the application rather than handed to whoever is available at launch. The infrastructure side of the same firm doing the build is the reason those pieces do not fall between chairs.
